Sunday School

Sunday School sessions take place in the small hall in the Parish Centre every Sunday at 10 am except the first one in each month, which is our Family Eucharist in Church.  After processing into Church at the beginning of each service behind our banner, one of our children lights the Sunday School candle on the nave altar and then we leave after the Sunday School prayer towards the end of the first hymn.  Our worship continues in the hall, with different combinations of a song/hymn, prayer, Lord’s Prayer, collection and collection prayer and a few words about the particular Sunday.  Sometimes we all play a game before our Lectionary based sessions for which we may split into two age related groups, or alternatively enjoy ‘all-age’ activities together.

We return to Church and join the congregation in time for the children to go up to the high altar for a blessing.  All the children, with the leaders and helpers, usually sit together on the front pews so that they can see what is going on easily and can feel part of our church family.  There is a ‘show and tell’ session towards the end of each service which gives the congregation a chance to see what the children have been doing and learning about during the morning.

We usually have a party during the year after one of our sessions – sometimes in the summer and sometimes at Christmas, to ring the changes!

Our weekly collections are sent to Nasolo Children’s’ Ward of the Mengo Hospital in Uganda and another charity which is usually decided by the children.  We have, in the past, sent donations to the earthquake victims in Haiti, Botton Village in North Yorkshire, Water Aid and a charity providing animals (such as goats, cows and chicken) for families in Africa.

Anyone wishing to visit us in Sunday School to see our worship and activities is very welcome.

Creche

for 0-3 year olds, takes place in the same hall as the Sunday School and is available on every Sunday School morning.

There is a team of leaders and volunteers for both the Sunday School and the Creche who have all been CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) cleared.  The CRB is now known as the DBS – Disclosure and Barring Service.
